Mechanized Biofil Toilet System

An advanced onsite biofilter toilet system, engineered by Sisal Engineering after a comprehensive study of the operational limitations of conventional Biofil systems — delivering better treatment, easier maintenance and longer service life.

WHAT IT IS

A biofilter toilet, re-engineered.

A biofilter (Biofil) toilet treats human waste biologically on site rather than storing it in a pit or tank. The concept works — but in the field, conventional units run into recurring technical and operational problems that reduce their efficiency, reliability and long-term performance under varying site conditions.

Sisal Engineering studied those limitations and developed an improved engineering solution — the Mechanized Biofil Toilet System — that addresses the major contributing factors through enhanced design, improved wastewater-treatment processes, better hydraulic performance, and a stronger focus on durability, ease of maintenance and environmental protection.

WHAT WE IMPROVED

What the mechanized design delivers.

Higher reliability

Improves the reliability and efficiency of onsite sanitation systems.

Better treatment

Enhances wastewater-treatment performance for cleaner outcomes.

Less maintenance

Reduces maintenance requirements and operational failures.

Longer life

Increases the service life of sanitation infrastructure.

Wide suitability

Sustainable sanitation for a wide range of site conditions, including challenging environments.

Eco-friendly

Biological treatment on site that protects public health and the environment.

THE DIFFERENCE

Pit latrine or septic vs Mechanized Biofil.

Pit latrine or conventional storage

Sisal Mechanized Biofil Toilet

WHERE IT SUITS

Sanitation for places the sewer never reached.

Homes

Households with no sewer connection, or replacing a pit latrine.

Schools

High-use, low-maintenance sanitation for schools and facilities.

Institutions

Clinics, churches and community buildings.

With SBDS

Pairs with the Sisal Biomechanical Drainage System for complete on-site sanitation.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions.

We re-engineered the points where conventional units fall short in service — treatment performance, hydraulic flow, maintenance and durability — while keeping the underlying biological principle. The result is a more reliable system that is easier to live with.

No. Waste is treated biologically on site rather than stored, so there is no pit filling up. Routine maintenance is required, and the mechanized design makes it easier.

Correctly installed and maintained, no. Odour problems are usually a symptom of storage-based sanitation or poor installation.

Yes, and that is a common reason people contact us. The free site assessment establishes what is there and what the changeover involves.

Yes. Many properties take both — the Mechanized Biofil for the toilet, and the Sisal Biomechanical Drainage System for the property’s wider wastewater.
